The role

As the Machine Concepts R&D Engineer, you will be part of the Machine Concepts and Upscaling sub-team of the Technology team, which is tasked with developing machine concepts for roll-to-roll thin film PV upscaled factories. The base for the development is our current roll-to-roll thin film PV factory in Arnhem, the Netherlands. The machine concepts will be developed in close collaboration with various equipment suppliers, who will be responsible for the actual design. You responsibility will mainly involve experimentally testing the feasibility of the technology concepts on current existing tools both internally and externally.

The key consideration involving these upscaling concepts are productivity, uptime, yield, operability as well as safety. The technologies involved are various thin film deposition processes such as atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition, plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition as physical vapor deposition, as well as laser, lamination and wet chemical processes.

This new position has opened due to recent investment, linked to a factory expansion.

What are you going to do?

Working in close contact within our Technology team, your main responsibilities are:

  • Design experimental setups to test upscaled machine concepts;
  • Run calculations for/simulate machine concept subsystems ;
  • Validation of concept feasibility from experiment and/or simulations.

What are we looking for

  • MSc. In Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or Physics;
  • 5+ years’ work experience in manufacturing (especially tool commissioning and testing);
  • Solid knowledge in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and machine design;
  • Hands on approach, self-driven and strong sense of taking initiative;
  • Fast learner and curious about how things work;
  • Creative, out of the box thinker, but able to make choices decisively;
  • Has a positive/critical mindset and can be flexible;
  • Strong analytical, communication, and reporting skills;
  • Team focused and pragmatic;
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment;
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
